You can find a full list of array methods here. In JavaScript, arrays come with many built-in properties and methods we can use with different purposes, such as adding or deleting items from the array, sorting it, filtering its values, know its, length and so on. An array that has other arrays within itself is called a multidimensional array. const arr = Īny data type can be stored in an array, and that includes arrays too. In JavaScript that's not the case, as we can store values of any type in the same array and the length of it can be dynamic (it can grow or shrink as much as necessary). In some programming languages, the user can only store values of the same type in one array and the length of the array has to be defined at the moment of its creation and can't be modified afterwards. If the array contains 4 elements, we can say the array has a length of 4. The length property of an array is defined as the number of elements it contains. Arrays always start at index 0, so in an array of 4 elements we could access the 3rd element using the index number 2. ArraysĪn array is a collection of items stored at contiguous memory locations.Įach item can be accessed through its index (position) number. Now let's go through the most popular data structures out there, and see how each of them works, in what occasions they're useful, and how we can code them up in JavaScript. You will probably be able to tackle most programming tasks with built-in data structures, but for some very specific tasks a non-primitive data structure may come in handy. Non-primitive data structures don't come by default and you have to code them up if you want to use them.ĭifferent data structures exist because some of them are better suited for certain kind of operations. Primitive data structures come by default with the programming language and you can implement them out of the box (like arrays and objects). JavaScript has primitive (built in) and non-primitive (not built in) data structures. We can perform many operations on the array, like pushing new values into it Each value is related to one another, in the sense that each is indexed in a position of the array All of them are a collection of values that relate to each other, and can be operated on by you.□ // A collection of the values 1, 2 and 3 Have you used arrays and objects? Those are all data structures. If you've been coding for a little while, you must have used data structures before. These definitions might sound a bit abstract at first, but think about it. More precisely, a data structure is a collection of data values, the relationships among them, and the functions or operations that can be applied to that data. In computer science, a data structure is a format to organize, manage and store data in a way that allows efficient access and modification. In this article I'll try to give a simple explanation of data structures, what they are, when are they useful, and how we can implement them using JavaScript. It's definitely a must know topic for anyone working in the software development world, but it can be hard to understand and even a bit intimidating when you're starting out. Hi everyone! In this article we're going to take a look at a key topic when it comes to computer science and software development: data structures. Keep Your Connection Secure Without a Monthly Bill. Hazel is available for a free 14-day trial, and it cost $21.95 for a license key. Setting up rules for Hazel might at first seem like an hassle, but taking the time to set them up will save you tons of time in the long run. All image files could be sent to an image folder, and PDFs could be moved to a PDF folder. For example, you can set up rules to move files in your Downloads folder, into designated subfolders according to the kinds of files that get downloaded there. If you don't have any day-old files on your desktop, you can temporarily change the time to a say "'not in the last 1 minute" to see run on recently added files.Īfter you get a basic understanding of Hazel, you will start thinking of other folders on your Mac that you want to set rules for. Now, let's test out your first Hazel automation.Ĭlick on the gear shift under the Rules editor and select "Run Rules Now." Any day old files you have on there will be moved to your designated folder. Give your rule a name in the Description text box and click on OK. In the resulting dialog box, create a new folder-or select an existing one-for where you want designated files moved to. So where it says "Move file," click on the second grayed out drop-down button scroll down and select "Other". Any files moved to my Junk folder can of course be retrieved when needed. I don't want files on my desktop deleted, I just want them moved out of the way to keep my desktop from being becoming cluttered. I have day-old desktop files relocated to what I call a "Junk Folder". Now we need to tell Hazel where to move those files. So in the text box, you can leave the day as "1" or put any amount of days you like. In the second drop-down menu, select "not in the last", and in the third menu, select "day." What this rule means is that any files on your computer that have been there longer than 24 hours will get moved. Select the parameter "Date Added" in the first drop-down menu. Next, click on the "+" button on the far right to add another rule. Click on the drop-down button titled, "Name" and select "Any File." As you can see, I have dozens of automations already set up in my Hazel. The Desktop icon should appear under the Folders section. Navigate to your Home folder and open your Desktop folder in Hazel. So let's see how Hazel can automatically clean it up.Īfter Hazel is installed, open it (it resides in System Preferences of your Mac) and Click on the "+" button at the bottom-left of Hazel. Files are pretty easy to park and retrieve there, but sometimes they can start to clutter up the space and slow down your Mac. It could be considered the largest folder on your Mac. You may not realize it, but your Desktop is actually a folder. To get started with Hazel, you need to select a folder in which you want to apply rules to. First, download a 14-day trial version of the application and let's take it for a spin. If that sounds confusing, don't let it be. Since all the files in your computer reside in folders, Hazel is designed to run actions on the contents of folders based on rules you set. I recommend Hazel as one of the most essential applications for any Mac user. Let's explore how it works. Like smart folders, smart playlists, and smart albums found in Mac OS X and iPhoto, Hazel can automate the task of moving, copying, or deleting files in folders on your Mac. In many of my articles, I will refer to applications designed to empower Mac users to automate various tasks on their computer. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the most popular pink gemstones: And while they might all look alike at first glance, each type of pink gem has its unique properties. Who knew there were so many different shades of pink? From the palest blush to the deepest fuchsia, pink gemstones come in a wide range of hues. Jadeite is the rarer and more valuable of the two, ranging in color from white to deep green. Unlike emeralds, jade is not a mineral but a type of rock composed of two minerals: jadeite and nephrite. Emeralds are a type of beryl, a mineral that includes aquamarine and Morganite.īeryl ranges in color from pale pink to deep crimson, but emeralds are distinctly green.Īnother popular type of green gemstone is jade. Known for their luxurious hue and natural sparkle, green gemstones are a favorite among celebrities and royal families alike.Īlthough there are many different types of green gemstones, the most popular choice for engagement rings is an emerald. Green is the color of nature and new beginnings, making it no surprise that green gemstones are some of the most popular choices for engagement rings and other fine jewelry. They make an excellent gift for a loved one, and you can also wear them to express your style. Red gems are also popular because they are associated with love and passion. The durability of red gemstones makes them suitable for a wide range of jewelry applications. These gemstones range in color from orange-red to purplish red, and they are found all over the world. Red gemstones get their color because of the presence of a mineral called chromium. Rubies are also the hardest red stones, making them more resistant to scratches and wear. Opals, on the other hand, are composed of hydrated silicon dioxide. So, what sets these three stones apart?įor starters, rubies are made of corundum (aluminum oxide), while garnets are comprised of various minerals. Rubies, garnets, and opals–oh my! There’s a veritable cornucopia of red gemstones to choose from, and each one is as unique as the next. A well-cut blue stone can radiate elegance and sophistication unmatched by any other color. It’s no mystery why the color blue has come to symbolize grandeur and affluence. This rarity makes blue gemstones very valuable and highly sought-after. Out of all the colored gemstones, only a small handful are truly blue. But what exactly makes blue gemstones so special?įor starters, blue is a scarce color in nature. From the deep blue of sapphires to the delicate blue of turquoise, these stones have been cherished for centuries. No matter what your favorite color is, there’s no denying that blue gemstones are some of the world’s most beautiful and popular types of gems. Let’s take a closer look at each of them individually. List of Different Colored Gemstones with Their Color Chartīecause there is such a wide range of color variance throughout the many different kinds of gems, we have structured this gemstone color chart according to the color families. So the next time you see a beautiful colored gemstone, remember that it’s the result of millions of years of geological history – and a little chemistry. And diamonds are usually colorless but can also be yellow, blue, or brown. Garnets can be a variety of colors, depending on the type of impurities present. The different colors of these stones result from impurities or defects in the crystal lattice.įor example, rubies get their red color from traces of chromium. All precious stones are composed of atoms arranged in a regular, repeating pattern called a crystal lattice. The answer lies in their chemistry and atomic structure. Rubies, garnets, and diamonds are all precious stones, but what makes a ruby red? Or a garnet, for that matter? Which of These Colored gemstones is Your Favorite?.Color Chart for Yellow/Bronze/Gold Gems.List of Different Colored Gemstones with Their Color Chart. How Do Gemstones Achieve These Vivid Colors?. (To be honest, this criterion cut the most apps.)Ĭan you use the app in multiple ways? If you create one post for Twitter, it should be easy to repurpose it for Instagram, or even for a flyer. I only included apps that had assets that would allow you to represent yourself or your company in a professional light. You can't slap some cheesy clipart on a graphic that represents your brand, or keep recycling the same social media post design over and over. Especially when there are great apps out there you could be using.Īre the design assets varied and professional? It's easy to find social media templates online, but many of them are awful. But even if you're not (yet) paying for a service, you shouldn't be hamstrung by a slow, janky, and just unpleasant experience. Is the app experience good? A free graphic design app has the potential to be, frankly, awful to use (looking at you, GIMP). I wanted apps that streamlined the process of creating strong graphics, not offering every tool under the sun. Is this app suited well for social media marketing? Again, Photoshop and Illustrator can do incredible things, but they're complete overkill for most people trying to create images for their social media marketing channels. This isn't to say there won't be some learning curve, just that it doesn't require a textbook to climb. If you have the chops to use Photoshop and pay for it, you'll probably get the best results, but it isn't the right option for the majority of people looking for a free tool. Social media management is rarely done by people with a design background, so any app has to cater to regular people. Is this app easy enough for anyone to use? Tools like Photoshop and Illustrator (which I love) are incredible in the right hands, and unusable in the wrong ones. I generally focused on the overall ease of use and professional offerings of each app, but I also had some key criteria that each app needed to meet to be included on this list: I also created at least two test posts using the templates (with most of the favorites, even more). To test each app, I spent a significant amount of time browsing hundreds of themes to get a feel for the quality of each one. Even if something is free, I won't recommend it if it's awful. I didn't expect these free social media post makers to eclipse it, but they had to offer a great service. I've relied on Adobe Photoshop for over a decade, and it sets a high bar for paid products. I'll also flag what you get if you're prepared to pay a few dollars a month-some of these options have great value paid plans. Granted, some of these are more limited free plans of premium products, but they're all up to the job of creating awesome images for your social media marketing channels. I've considered close to 40 free graphic design apps and found five great, free resources. What makes graphic design apps free isn't necessarily a lack of quality, but a lack of some powerful design features and nice-to-have extras, like AI-powered features. Being able to repurpose the posts you've already made is a huge time-saver.Īnd you don't need to pay huge prices to get incredible results. Then, all you have to do is mix and match things with your own brand elements to have something unique and powerful. This is why a good graphic design app is so crucial: instead of starting from scratch each time, you have a range of great templates and design resources (like stock images, icons, shapes, and text styles) ready to go. It's more important that you get your content out into the world where people can actually see it than you pore over every pixel to get things perfect. Social media posts have a very short lifecycle, so you shouldn't spend hours creating them. For more details on our process, read the full rundown of how we select apps to feature on the Zapier blog. We're never paid for placement in our articles from any app or for links to any site-we value the trust readers put in us to offer authentic evaluations of the categories and apps we review. We spend dozens of hours researching and testing apps, using each app as it's intended to be used and evaluating it against the criteria we set for the category. All of our best apps roundups are written by humans who've spent much of their careers using, testing, and writing about software. |
